Student Union Election

Voting in the Student Union election is the most important way for students to influence decisions taken by the Student Union and the university. By voting you empower the Student Union´s deciding bodies and help us improve educational quality and student life for everyone.

We have gathered all information about the process on this site: how to apply to the board and how you vote in the union election 2024.

Important dates 2024

19 February: The Linnaeus Union opens for applications and nominations. You apply by emailing your resumé and personal letter to election@linnek.se. You can also nominate someone else by submitting your recommendation together with the contact details of the person you are nominating, also to election@linnek.se

You can apply for different positions within the Student Union board. Last day for applications is 18 mars. 

20 March - 3 April: The nomination committee will contact and interview all applicants.

The Student Union election lasts between 15 April - 26 April. All active members can vote for electable candidates.

The new Student Union board is presented at the annual meeting on 28 May It is then also possible to nominate yourself or someone else for the vacant posts. 

Board positions that can be applied for

President

NOTE: For this position you need to be fluent in Swedish. The chairman is ultimately responsible for the activities and finances of the Linnaeus Union, and that the organization follows its purpose and governing documents! This is active and visible in both locations (Kalmar/Växjö) and has a wide network within the municipality, university and other organizations and companies that may be in the students’ interest! The chairman oversees educational issues that affect all educations at the university and student social matters.

Responsible for Educational Matters Växjö

NOTE: For this position you need to be fluent in Swedish. As Head of Educational Matters, you get to see how Linnaeus University works from the inside! You may attend meetings with faculty boards and other decision-making bodies and review how the education programs are actually carried out. Others keep track of the university’s interests, so Head of Educational Matters’ job is to keep track of the students’ interests! This person meets the students, listens to their opinions and is an ambassador for fair and better education at Linnaeus University (and in all of Sweden!) The Head of Educational Matters is also involved and influences student life, by helping to lead and influence the students in the education associations.

Responsible for Educational Matters Kalmar

As Head of Educational Matters, you get to see how Linnaeus University works from the inside! You may attend meetings with faculty boards and other decision-making bodies and review how the education programs are actually carried out. Others keep track of the university’s interests, so Head of Educational Matters’ job is to keep track of the students’ interests! NOTE: For this position you need to be fluent in Swedish. As Responsible for Social Matters your main focus is improving students´ lives in general, including things like student safety, accommodation, working life issues, improved public transport, planning social events and coordinating with student associations and pubs. In short, you want students to have a great time outside of their studies. ONLY SWEDISH SPEAKERS CAN APPLY

Responsible for Social Matters Växjö

NOTE: For this position you need to be fluent in Swedish. As Responsible for Social Matters your main focus is improving students´ lives in general, including things like student safety, accommodation, working life issues, improved public transport, planning social events and coordinating with student associations and pubs. In short, you want students to have a great time outside of their studies. ONLY SWEDISH SPEAKERS CAN APPLY

Part-time board member Växjö

NOTE: For this position you need to speak fluent English or Swedish. There are six positions for part time board representatives in the board of the Linnaeus Union; three in Kalmar and three in Växjö. You do not have to take a study break in order to apply for the position of part time board representative, you will conduct your work in the board alongside your studies. As a part time board representative, you attend student union board meetings and are expected to participate in one of the student unions working groups that deal with student social matters and educational matters for example. You will also represent the student union in certain projects and at events during the year. As a board representative, you will receive a small monthly compensation.
