Linnaeus Union is a LGBTQ-qualified organization

Do you want to start a student association?

There are many benefits to a student association. Among other things, each student association under Linnaeus union has the right to ask for money for up to SEK 20,000 each year for its events. You also get the opportunity to book premises and run activities at Linnaeus University, and of course support from us in the form of various training courses and help with student social issues.

Got no experience? Don't worry! Ask us for help: social.k@linnek.se or social.v@linnek.se and we'll gladly help.

There's two different types of student associations under Linnaeus union: educational and interest.

  • Educational associations are linked to specific programs at the university and are responsible for carrying out educational monitoring of these programmes. In return, the association also receives permission to organize a fun introduction for new students. An introduction is a great opportunity for new students to make friends and build relationships, and the same goes for old students who get involved in the introduction. You simply all get the chance for a better study time.
  • Student associations of interest gather around something they think is important or just fun. You can look to see which interest associations exist in your town (Here for Kalmar and here for Växjö), and maybe you will find a void for your particular interest. Then you can start your own association around it.

How do I begin?

First, you must come up with a purpose for the association. If it concerns an educational association at one of our satellite locations, an example of purpose could be:
To promote student life and the quality of education for Linnaeus University's students in Västervik.

The third thing you need to do is write a letter of motivation (on a little less than an A4 page). Unlike the purpose and the statutes, the letter of motivation is not directed at your new association, but to the Linnaeus union board. It serves as an explanation for why the association is needed, and is one of the reasons why you should be approved as a student association. The letter of motivation must be based on the purpose, and in it you must also describe how the association can be kept alive after the founders have left it. A requirement for a student association to be approved by the Linnaeus union board is that the association has support to become long-lived.
