Ny student Växjö
Welcome to Linnaeus University, and hopefully as a member of Linnaeus Union too!
Here, we have gathered things we are commonly asked about. and Things that are good to know.. The primary role of the Linnaeus Union is to represent students in relation to the university and the surrounding community.
We represent all students, not just members. We are often asked by the university about students' opinions. We collaborate with our student associations and encourage students to provide us with feedback.
The Linnaeus Union works to ensure that the programs at Linnaeus University maintain high quality and that you can receive advice and support when needed. At About us you can view the roles available within the organization and find our contact information.
Of course, there’s life outside of studies too. You can take part in a vibrant association life: Around 35 associations regularly organize various activities.
Read more below, about student associations, the introduction, national student ID, as well as info about our Welcome fairs. You can also learn more about students' rights (and responsibilities) at Linnaeus University and find out how to make the most of your study time.
Introduction weeks
During the introduction weeks, you will get to know your new classmates while familiarizing with your new university city, and have a great time in the process. Many students describe the introduction period as one of the most enjoyable experiences throughout their entire study period!
The educational associations and ESN, together with the student union, are responsible for the introduction. Before the start of the term, you will be contacted by your association and receive all the information you need.
If you don't get contacted you can find contact information for the associations here. Under each educational association's logo, it states which programs the association represents.
Student Life
Here you can read more about getting involved.
National student ID
För högskole- och universitetsstudenter finns tre alternativ av nationellt student-ID: Mecenat, Studentkortet and WeStudents. You can choose one or all three! Easily download them from the App Store or Google Play – all apps are free. To access travel discounts, you may need to upload or submit proof of enrollment showing that you’re an active student.
A national student ID is essential to prove you’re a student and eligible for travel discounts, both for trains and local public transport. Note that if you purchase a discounted ticket but cannot prove that you're a student, you may face high fines.
In addition to travel discounts, you can also receive student discounts on clothing, restaurants, electronics, and much more!
Welcome fairs
We organize the Welcome Fair in Växjö once per semester. The aim is to introduce new students to the student city, student life, and the range of services offered by businesses, associations, and public agencies.
The fairs are very popular both with the exhibitors and the students. Usually we have about 3000-5000 students visiting, new students as well as current ones.
Your rights
There are rights and responsibilities you are expected to know about, follow and use. You should pay particular attention to rules concerning cheating and plagiarism! Discuss them with your teacher or contact us if you have any questions or if you need advise and support. Do you need advice and support check out more information here!
Health
Maintaining a good health as a student is of course important, both for the success of your studies but also for your general well-being. This applies to both mental and physical health, which are often linked together!

The Linnaeus Union has a committee that offers various activities focused on well-being. These activities are open to all students. Read more under EUniWell.
Insurances
It is important to have a home insurance for your student apartment or dorm room.
Most insurance companies require a Swedish personal number, but there are some exceptions. Have a look at Dina, https://www.dina.se/.
Students at Linnaeus University are insured during school hours and during direct travel between the accommodation and the university facilities. The insurance covers personal injuries caused by accidents as well as certain cases of illness due to contagion. The concept of school hours also includes accidents during distance learning if the accident is directly related to the studies being carried out. More info can be found here!
